Situated midway between Chislehurst and Orpington in the borough of Bromley, Petts Wood offers something rare: the vibrancy of a thriving town and the open green spaces of woodlands and parklands, all within a short distance of London. With excellent transport links, reputable schools, plenty of property choices and a real community vibe; Petts Wood is a truly idyllic place to live.

Great transport links to London and beyond
The area benefits from a very well-connected station, running regular services into the heart of London, including London Bridge,Victoria, Cannon Street and Charing Cross.. Canary Wharf is easily reached via Lewisham and trains travel right into Kent. An extensive bus service connects all the major towns in the local area, but if you’re travelling further afield, the M25 and the M20 are easily accessible.

Reputable, local and selective schools
The numerous schools of Petts Wood and Orpington are in themselves a draw to the area – in fact, many families have relocated to the area to take advantage of Bromley’s reputation for good schools. You’ll find a mix of state and private schools, including Crofton Infant School, Crofton Junior School and St James’s Catholic School. All received ratings of “outstanding” in their most recent Ofsted inspections. St Olave’s Grammar School ranked number six in the top state secondary schools in England 2021, and Newstead Wood School, number 16, are both within a ten minute drive of Petts Wood.

Protected green spaces
One thing that really sets Petts Wood apart is the expansive woodland. Protected and managed by the National Trust, the Petts Wood and Hawkwood are perfect for an afternoon walk. Planted in the last quarter of the 16th century by the Pett family, the woodland is embroidered with local history. A place of tranquillity and beauty, it has been known to strike inspiration: it was here William Willet invented daylight-saving time as he rode through Petts Wood, just after dawn, in the early 1900s.

Great local restaurants and cafes
Petts Wood is home to a number of excellent establishments serving some of the finest food and drink. Local favourites include the One Inn the Wood, an award-winning micropub which boasts a selection of locally produced ales and wine, delicious food and an unrivalled atmosphere. Alternatively, head to nearby Orpington High Street and try Xian for the flavours of the East. And not forgetting Michelin Star restaurant, Chapter One, just an eight minute drive away.
